University of Shanghai for Science and Technology (USST) is a key application and research-oriented university in Shanghai. With engineering as its core program, USST offers a range of programs including engineering, science, economics, management, literature, law and art. In 2018, USST was designated as the pilot construction entity for Shanghai “high-level local university” program.

College of Communication and Art Design was founded in May 2007 on the basis of the former College of Publishing and Printing and former College of Art Design. As a multi-disciplinary college focusing on engineering, liberal arts and art, CCAD was jointly established by the State Administration of Press and Publication and Shanghai Municipal Government. Liu Binjie, former director of the State Administration of Press and Publication is the honorary dean of the College.

CCAD boasts nearly 160 faculty members and over 2800 students. It also has set up nine departments including printing and packaging engineering, network and new media, publishing and digital communication, advertisement, art design, environmental design, animation, industrial design and fine arts. Concurrently, there are nine academic research institutions, ten undergraduate programs, two doctorate degree awarding bodies for second-level disciplines, one master’s degree awarding body for first-level disciplines (including three master’s degree awarding bodies), one master’s degree awarding body for second-level disciplines and four master’s degree awarding bodies.

CCAD is a base for cultivating publishing and printing talents for the State Administration of Press and Publication and an education base for cultivating excellent press communication talents for Shanghai. The teaching and research platform sestablished by CCAD include:
